FIGMENTS
Opens on September 4th in Paris at Galerie L.J.
My show and Evah's show Come What May will be starting on Saturday and running though October 16th. If you are in Paris or know anyone there please drop by. Vernissage Sept 4, 18.00-21.00.

Galerie L.J. is pleased to present Figments by American Artist Brendan Monroe. The exhibition will mark the artist's second solo show in France.

Brendan Monroe's universe is populated with characters and landscapes reflecting the depths of his subconscious. His aim is to recreate a place of solace and escape from reality, while holding onto the humanness of a thought. This imaginary world is presented as a novel experience and designed to be seen as if it were a series of thoughts or dreams. It is a place that is always evolving and characters are constantly stepping on and off stage. His characters are part element and part human. For example, anonymous humanoid forms in which each might reflect a different emotional quality more strongly than the other; a hidden desire or confidence to explore. This escape from reality is a peace of mind that carries with it an edge of unfamiliarity and mystery.

Brendan Monroe continues to explore his own mental world which takes the form of certain abstraction, contemplative and serene. Small agencies of molecular acorns or potatoes and not as present but the spotlight is on vast lunar landscapes and stringy rivers of color.

Brendan and his wife, artist Evah Fan, have recently moved to Stockholm, Sweden where they continue careers as artists and illustrators. Monroe received his B.F.A. from Art Center College of Design in 2004. He is co-represented by Faye Fleming & Partner in Geneva, Switzerland and Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica, California, USA.

I've very excited to be in the new issue of Juxtapoz Magazine. Please pick it up and take a look if you see it on the news stands. I feel like I'm in good company. I had a nice long interview on skype with their writer Kristin Farr and my friend Stephanie Wiegner took my portait shot. There is also now a little mini follow up interview on their site.

Between Here and Here Zine
I've been wanting to make this zine for a while now. It's a collection of a bunch of abstract drawings from my sketchbooks. I wrote a loose story to bring them all together. Lots on growth, explosions, cycles and organisms. It's printed by 1984 Printing in Oakland who uses soy inks and recycled papers. 32 pages, 8 x 5.5 inches, offset printing with brown ink. See some sample spreads here.
